Claire Wickes is a film and media composer currently living in London, UK. She is a composer and creator for Orchestral Tools, and collaborates regularly with filmmakers from the UK and further afield.

Claire studied at Oxford University and the Royal College of Music, held scholarships at both institutions, and graduated with first class honours in her undergraduate and Masters degrees. She has composed for animation studio Origami Dollar, Spitfire Audio, Buzzfeed UK and is a regular collaborator with The Cue Tube amongst others.

With a background in orchestral and classical music, Claire enjoys using her film scores to explore and extend this musical world, and often combines electronic and acoustic sound in her writing.

Over the lockdowns in 2020, Claire began an ongoing project inspired by the book Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo, which documents the stories of extraordinary women. By opening this book at a random page and writing a piece of music in just 24 hours inspired by whichever influential woman the book falls open at, Claire hopes to honour and celebrate these women’s stories in a creative and joyful way.

As well as composing original work, Claire arranges and orchestrates. As a performer, Claire is the Principal flautist of the English National Opera Orchestra and performs regularly on major film scores and soundtracks.
